The Roman Emperor Claudius was proclaimed by members of the Praetorian Guard after they had orchestrated the murder of Caligula. Claudius walked with a limp and had a speech impediment and thought he was the Guard's next victim. In any event, Claudius proved not the buffoon as one might have originally expect. Claudius was able to do what even Caesar could not, conquer Brittania. Under Claudius, the Roman Empire enjoyed a period of stability. It was only at the end when Claudius adopted Nero to be his successor, rather than his own son. And history described that result.

While it lasted, the Roman Empire was the world order. Today, with this new China-Russia Alliance, the order has been shifted again. The West, largely through policy decisions of the leadership, the excesses of environmental policy, the determination to end fossil fuel exploitation has passed the ability to decide events to the Chinese. They are the authors of their own international system that will hail the supremacy of Beijing and the triumph of eastern totalitarian regimes over western democracies.

This situation is only made worse by the deliberate energy policy of the Biden Administration with the President today announcing the planned veto of the House Republican energy plan that would move the country back to energy independence. It the President's words, however, that would be a :path backwards."

Backwards to what ? Lower gas ? American energy dominance ? It has become laughable for the President and other Western "leaders" to believe that their so-called "rules based" world order, opposite of what is considered the narrow-minded nationalism of the previous Administration. Never mind that the rules are now written in Beijing.

The pages of history have been turned before. Rome had been preceded by Hellenistic Greece which came after Achaemenid Persia, which followed the civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. If China is set to replace the United States as the dominant power, and Americans suddenly find themselves subservient to a hostile nation.
