No Tea From China ?

(No Tea From China ?)

The phrase "not for all the tea in China" has been common enough over the years. It means that some things cost too much and one would not proceed even with all of China's tea. It could also be true that there are tariffs on Chinese tea. At least, one would hope so. And, not just tea, but a whole spectrum of products and services. The best way to deal with a foreign an admittedly hostile power would be to sanction its economy. Placing Beijing on a leash had been a primary aim of the Trump Administration and several trade accords were negotiated that included penalties if the Peoples' Republic demurred.

It goes without saying that the Biden Administration has been very accommodating to the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese government. There could be various reasons for that but President Biden seems to believe that he needs China to help combat climate change. As a consequence, he is less willing to antagonize the Chinese.

The President's assessment of China has never reflected anu sense of reality. Biden had been looking at the Anglo-Sino relationship as one of where China and the U.S. could work on "global challenges," but, in remarks delivered to the Commencement of the Air Force Academy, Biden said the was prepared for "vigorous competition."

No, he isn't. China has no war on fossil fuels. Indeed, the Chinese coal industry is flourishing when the American counterpart is being force out of business. The Chinese Armed Forces are getting bigger and better equipped daily.  There is the new trade deal made with Taiwan that has not made the Chinese happy

Beijing will never seek a partnership with Washinton in the manner in which Biden prefers. The President cannot speak to American interests, much counsel the Chinese on theirs.
