Poor Relations

(Poor Relations)

There was a comedy troupe from a few years ago that basically made fun of "red-necks" the stereotypical image of a southern boob who drinks too much beer and has.  a car on blocks in the front yard. The group had three main members namely Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry, the Cable Guy.  These in their standup performances poked fun on the Dominion South and their material could be quite funny.

A lot less funny but still in the mold of poor relations are the Palestinian Arabs. Arab states in the Middle East, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Syria and even Yemen. With the probable exceptions of Iran and Yemen, the War in Gaza has produced a large number of Palestinian refugees. Who could take them ? The Palestinians have been problem children since the inception of the Jewish State. The original U.N. Mandate for the partition of the area allowed for a two-state solution, Jewish and Arab. The Jews accepted the compromise but the Arabs did not.

What followed were decades of Israeli-Palestinian conflict with sharp incidents at Entebbe and Munich. Israel had to fight three wars, the end result of which was Israel's occupation of Gaza. When IDF troops departed the area, Hamas representatives were popularly elected by Gaza residents. There continued a low intensity conflict for a number of years, the occasional rocket pop from the Strip.

Then came October 7th where over 1,500 Israeli citizens were brutally murdered in horrific fashion. Men, women and children and several hundred were taken back into Gaza and were hostages but their fate now is un-certain. If Israel can ignore events in the West, the college protests and the Biden Administtation total lack of support if not threats to actually withhold such aid. Ignoring that, Israel is set to finally assault Rafah and, upon its reduction, Hamas should be quite weakened.

That would still leave the Palestinians and, with all but total destruction of Gaza, the two million or so that resided there on October 6th, where are they now ? Where can they go ? For all these now displaced persons, where can they go ? The surrounding Near Eastern nations have collectively denied them Palestinian re-settlement within their borders.

President Biden, on the other hand, seems keen to accept some of these people and have them settle here. In what reality might that be a good idea ? These are Arabs who have been indoctrinated in the precepts of Radical Islam, a big reason the Near East is refusing to take in any Palestinians from Gaza. From the President's point of view, however, as the flow of illegal aliens from the border will attest, any new group, especially one "oppressed," can be welcomed. If there is a leaning curve, it would be un-fortunate if President Biden decides wrong and something happens.

What one can say is that any two state solution within the confines of Palestine is dead. With Hamas eventual elimination, there will be no political authority remaining within the Gaza Strip. What next ? Elections ? The last time that was tried Hamas was voted in. Same mistake this time ?
