Spelling Relief. . .

(Spelling Relief. . .)

Once more, showing an age, those old Alka Seltzer antacid commercials: plop plop fizz fizz, oh what a relief (it is. Take two of those white tablets and dissolve, and then drink an evervessing solution that should deal with a sense of heartburn. That deep burning in the chest area that can be brought about by the dining habits of most Americans. One can see that there is a global sense of heartburn that would require several tons of the stuff per person. Heartburn can also be caused by daily life, life that politicians have been making difficult either by design, or ignorance.

When Prime Minister Truss assumed Office a few weeks ago, it was announced that she would begin to seek supply side economic policies and would also seek to increase energy production. Now, for various reasons, her plans have collapsed to the point where her vey tenure could be in jeopardy. Why ? Truss is having the right idea which has the potential to offer some respite to stressed Britons. The would be Truss plan was to be executed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who had to be sacked. However, as there was immediate negative reaction to the plan, the FT 100 tanked and the Pound took a dive against the Dollar.

Okay so the Truss plan has lost its champion because it was not ready for prime time. That does not mean that the ideas are flawed, however. If the goal in the end is economic growth, then the initial Truss program is still the right direction. The endemic stagflation accompanying Keynesian economics has kept Great Britain, as well as the rest of Europe for that matter, there has to be an alternative.

One of the things to look forward to when Republicans take back at least the House is to try to make the Trump-ear tax cuts permanent. This was going to be accomplished in a Trump second term. It is unfortunate that the potential benefits of such a program was given away to green socialism and the recession such policies have caused. If she her way, Liz Truss would have followed what can be the appropriate course for the U.K.

But that is apparently not now. Great Britain, as the home of Adam Smith and his seminal work The Wealth of Nations, that promotes free market capitalism, is also the home of John Maynard Keynes who advocates for state intervention. The authors of what are two opposing economic systems, diametrically opposed but it has been the latter has been in place, in Britain, and in this country also.

Getting lost in all this are the people, the ones buying Alka Seltzer by the ton and these are the people who are not living under tax cuts or decreased regulation. At the end of the day, these are the people who will configure the Republican Congress and what it can do. Prime Minister Truss can wait her turn.
