STILL No Time To Find Religion. . .

(STILL No Time To Find Religion. . .)

One can start today with a word on the resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss. Her departure was sudden, and from this perspective, un-necessary. What the now defunct resident at Number 10 had tried to accomplish was to alter Britin's economic direction, looking to generate growth as opposed to the staid and stale policies of Tori, and Labour alike. Truss was offering a direction that failed to garner broader support. If one remembers, the same thing happened to Donald Trump. The GOP Conference in Congress at the time was able to pass his agenda, the tax cuts and so on. But President Trump was an anomaly and Republicans, especially in the House and those that had no special affinity for Trump, like then Speaker of the House and former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, Paul Ryan (R-WI), allowed over forty House Republicans to retire, setting up the Democrat take-over in 2019 and the impeachments of President Trump. Of course, the latter was discarded in due course and one can say that what Truss lacked the support of her Party for her initiatives. However, as was mentioned the other day, it is not to say that Truss' ideas are wrong.

Several months ago, Senator Joe Manchin had a "come to Jesus" moment when, after a similar interval. he had held his support of what would eventually be the ridiculously named Inflation Reduction Act. He got assurances from Senate Majority Leader Schumer to get a pipe-line through the Mountain State as well as "promises" of permitting reform. Since the Bill's passage, none of what Schumer promised has come to pass. Comments made here was a disappointing realization that Manchin, for all claims to the contrary, Manchin is as liberal as the rest of the Democrat Caucus.

If numbers are correct, that Caucus could be made smaller in a little over a week and a half. And, beyond Washington, there are various gubernatorial and state legislative elections where Republicans are playing as well. So, say you're a Democrat in a race and you have spent the last two years being an un-questioning advocate for President Biden and all his green socialist agenda. But now, much to a surprise, none of this was popular with the American people. What is such a politician to do ?

Well, as there have been strong data indicating a good night for the GOP. If Democrats want to avoid their own Cannae, days late and dollars short, their candidates are now "retreating" from previously held positions. School choice is now being considered. The border now needs to be secured. Taxes can be cut. People can get tougher on crime. And, perhaps most telling of all, oil and natural gas can be retrieved. These are all new positions that are evolved from the ones held for the last two years of the Biden Administration.

It is no accident that now, these evolved stances are precisely those held by Republicans, in essence making these Democrats "Me To" GOPers. But one cannot promise a fundamental transformation of the country only to realize now that there was never a mandate for it. Getting rid of Donald Trump is one thing. But the replacements have been no better, if not worse and that judgement will be rendered November 8th.
