Democracy Dies. . . On Television

(Democracy Dies. . . On Television)

One can look forward to this Mid-Term with some excitement. People have been talking about the end of democracy in this country come next Wednesday. There have been endless on-air comments from politician and pundit alike that with any Republican success come next Tuesday, "democracy," at least as defined by Democrats. will be coming to an end in short order.

Of course, it will be "democracy" that will be manifesting itself next week. Voters across the country will be expressing the collective preference as to whom will be the represent them at all levels of government. This time it appears to be that of the Republicans but that has been qualified that GOP gains will not necessarily be overwhelming and there is also no reason that Democrat losses need be catastrophic.

So, why the panic ? Why is someone taking pot shots at a GOP Congressional candidate ? Why is former President Obama out on the stump ? So is former Secretary Clinton as well as Ms, Harris ? This is a campaign and Party heavy hitters are out in support of this Democrat or that. This happens every two years but why, now. is everything a threat to Democracy ? In the end, whatever takes place, Republicans gaining a lot or a little, it will be the effective to the Biden Administration whose President just announced the closure of remaining coal plants. An energy crisis already in place, this close to an election, and the President has the bright idea to eliminate a source of cheap electricity. For his part, President Biden has been largely absent from the campaign trail.

It will be these absurd green policies that will potentially cost Democrats most dearly. Republicans will have a laundry list of Biden policies that they will vote to re-peal, this coal closure will be chief among them. A large part of the fight between the White House and Capitol Hill will be over energy. But, nobody's there yet.

So, come Tuesday, it will be the responsibility of all who read these pages, and everybody else for that matter, to go out and vote. Regardless of Party. Regardless of disposition. This a sacred duty and not one where so-called voter suppression would be evident. Let the chips fall where they may.
