Whet The Hell Just Happened ?

(What The Hell Just Happened ?)

It might be of interest to know that November 9th is the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. November 9th, the day after November 8th, when the Republican Party has blown its best chance to become a permanent Majority on Capitol Hill. Knowing the stakes and one would think a desire to amend the policies of the Biden Administration as well as the excesses of Democrats.

Those excesses can now continue as there was a collapse in any Republican presence. There was no red wave and, when the dust settles, it will be lucky if the GOP gets a ripple. Republican gains were registered in New York and Florida, but the Democrats took the money shots with Oz losing in Pennsylvania and Walker behind in Georgia. A run-off for December will be held to describe that outcome. But it has been the success of Fetterman and eventually Warnock that is describing an electorate that was not out last night. Even with the stakes as high as they were, Republicans did not seem motivated to get out and have the collective voice heard.

This year, Republicans fielded candidates that, on paper, seemed viable. At the time, an endorsement from former President Trump was valuable. With the exception of J.D. Vance in Ohio, Trump backed people lost or are about to lose in spectacular fashion. Why was Congressman Zeldin defeated by Governor Honchul ? Does that mean that Empire State crime is not the serious issue that Zeldin had said it was ? Are the leftist tendencies of Senator-elect Fetterman been accepted by the people of Pennsylvania ? Or, is Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) only marginally before Mandella Barnes. another extremist ?

The Democrats that prevailed yesterday represent the very liberal policies that Republicans ostensibly warned against. Will the Keystone State be satisfied that its freshman Senator wants to ban fracking ? To have the prisons opened ? Is there now wide-spread consensus that the police should indeed be de-funded ? The answer is probably no but a misleading, and a mistaken, narrative had been crafted over the previous months that Republicans were going to sweep all comers. So, taking things for granted, a lot of GOP voters stayed home. And this is where things stand.

Republicans are still poised to secure the House. One bright spot that can be considered is GOP success in Florida. Not only was Governor Desantis handily re-elected as was Senator Marco Rubio, Republicans won every state-wide race. The Sunshine State is now wholly in the "red" column.  In contrast to other un-successful races, Oz in Pennsylvania, or Masters losing Arizona or Laxalt in Nevada, DeSantis was able to demonstrate to his voters and why returning him to Tallahassee was in their interest.

On the reverse side was former President Trump. It had been his choices that lost in large measure and, like had been predicted some weeks ago, Republicans would win the Lower Chamber but fall short in the Senate. As last night demonstrated, the mantle of Republican Party leadership has decidedly passed to Ron DeSantis. Trump could never reconcile his loss two years ago and he is feeling personally slighted. And true to form, the Trump-DeSantis civil war has started, placing whatever gains Republicans did get last night in jeopardy. Donald Trump will never be President again. The question now is who he takes with him on his way to the bottom.

Remember. Even the jungle wants him dead.
