What would be the greatest gift this Christmas ? On the surface, it would be a Netflix password. The platform has said it will be cracking down on the practice but, that being said, there is not much the company can do to prevent such practices. Now, maybe device tracking on smartphones might be an indicator but, if one is watching Netflix anything on a phone, that is just wrong. Netflix anything needs to be seen on a television, the bigger the better.


There is a lot on television these days. A lot is depressing, not really in the Christmas Spirit. From the War in the Ukraine to the War on Christmas, A Christmas Carol goes "woke." It also happened that the most critical shopping days, where everybody is getting all their shopping at the last minute, a lot of the country is under a deep freeze. One can dream of a White Christmas but this is ridiculous !


This is the time of year for tradition. Couched in ritual with Christmas trees and holiday lighting. Visting "Santa" at the mall. Elevator music playing Christmas tunes. It varies from place to place. And, there are other traditions that are commemorated this time of year like Hannukah which is about to conclude, the Eighth Candle to be lit and Kwanzaa, which starts the day after Christmas.


And, truth also be told, Christmas is responsible for a fair share of heartburn. Between the stress of the shopping, travel if one was so inclined, and all the food. Somewhere out there is a fruitcake that can be carbon dated to the K-T Boundary (when the dinosaurs bought it). And the reason Sants Claus is so fat is because of contractual obligations that specified that "every glass of milk is drunk and every cookie is eaten. After all that, Santa would need Jenny Craig, and her sister.


A little gallows' humor this Christmas Eve. So, go out to your Christmas Party. Maybe open a present and get the kids to bed early, and await the greatest Gift. It is not a Netflix password.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Or, in other words, relax. Take a breath. De-compress. May 5th as it happens is the anniversary of Mexico's victory over French "occupation" of Mexico by Emperor Maximillian, brother to Austrian monarch Maria Theresa in what has been called the Battle of Puebla. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome. Like with the Israel- Hamas war where the Biden Administration continues to press for an all but unilateral ceasefire on the part of Israel. In California, the new $20/HR minimum wage is wreaking havoc on the fast food industry. And finally, after depleting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, oil has now become too expensive.
