There had been an episode of South Park as few years ago that had put its own take on the Easter Story. The show had been titled "Margaritaville" and it involved the purchase of a margarita maker machine. At the same time, the economy takes a tail-spin and the characters begin dressing in traditional First Century garb, the kind Jesus once wore. There was a Last Supper, a betrayal and the acquisition of a no limit Visa, assigned to one of the boys, Kyle Broflovski, who is Jewish, used the card to "pay the debts of the world," like Jesus but a different context.

The debt ceiling fight is not a South Park program and there is no no limit Visa that can be used to, legislatively, in a bill being proposed by House Democrats, to do away with any debt ceiling going forward. Government spending, such as it is, would be increased automatically and there would therefore be no need for any negotiation with Republicans. And, had there not been an emphatic statement from the President that there would be no discussion and that the House GOP should raise the ceiling, no questions asked. A "clean" continuing resolution and an automatic hike in the debt limit.

It has been all the excessive government spending that is the cause of the conditional economy today, The causes of inflation and the probable onset of a recession as a result. What has been needed at this point is a break in the cycle, a determination on the part of Republicans to emplace new policies that seeks to truncate government excess. That means real spending cuts across the entire spectrum of Departments. That means the DoD and probably a means test on Social Security.

One would find pie in the sky first. The question is not whether cuts to the budget can be effected but who will be receiving the blame if things go sideways. That being said, if the President is indeed under investigation over the document revelations, one would think he would be more willing to be less intransigent in his position.

But these "Nero's" are literally fiddling as Rome burns and finally defaulting on government debt is a reality that must be confronted, but the current will does not currently exist, on either side but if there is anything to be done, it would be to not use Kyle Broflovksi's Visa.
