The Speakership of Kevin McCarthy is now established fact. Clear with the hostages. That being said, what the Speaker had to do was throw everything to bribe his colleagues and would include the kitchen sink. Technically, McCarthy only received 216 votes out of the required 218 but he was no longer opposed. Those who were still not in his camp voted "present." It was now House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) who had his own address to deliver a farewell to Democrat Majority rule, what newly installed conservative Members panned.


However, and this had been detailed yesterday, there might be a "honeymoon" between McCarthy and the conservative Freedom Caucus but McCarthy has to know he has a hard money loan with them where the Vig alone could compromise McCarthy's broader ambitions. There is general agreement on major issues but how fast would anybody insist that the Biden Administration and the President be investigated for Hunter Biden-related stories ? 


What about securing the border ? What ever happened to restoring American energy independence ? And, truth be told. Americans have tired of all the investigations be they for Biden or Trump. There is no particular enthusiasm to see another President impeached but beyond that, endless investigations and Hearings from this Committee or that, carried on C-SPAN or wherever.


It has been a pitfall of politics to read a mandate where none exists but that is how things always seem to happen. Reading the will of the American people is as in-exact as astrology. Rolling bones and reading entrails will give one as accurate a read of the electorate as any polling data. That being said, the Freedom Caucus would seem to be one of those institutions that is mis-reading its mandate.


Speaker McCarthy will have to negotiate these issues with the realization that his job is dependent on just one Member who can object to his Speakership and call to Vacate the Chair." As a consequence. the Speaker is lacking flexibility and less than 100% adherence to the dogmatic ideology of the likes of the Freedom Caucus could result in his removal. Circling firing squads has no survivors.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. (Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
