The Boys & The Girls Are Doing It !

(The Boys & The Girls Are Doing It !)

There is a program called Stranger Things that airs on Netflix.  It has yet to be viewed by the Author. Apparently, it is some mix of the supernatural paired with the mundane. Perhaps not compared to what has just transpired in Minneapolis. There, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), as his first administrative action signed a bill that basically simplifies the tax code in the Land of A Thousand Lakes, which, in essence, gives Minnesotans a tax cut.

A tax cut ? For Minnesota ? The state that just elected all Democrats in the State House and both Houses in the Legislature ? Democrats are supposed to oppose such reductions but by simplifying the state revenue code, hundreds of thousands of individuals and business could be saved annually. In the wake of inflation and other costs, a tax cut would be appropriate.

Who else is cutting taxes ? Joni Ernst (R) of Iowa and Glenn Youngkin (R) of Virginia are also seeking tax relief. Texas and Florida have no state income tax to speak of but both have Republican Governors so one would expect a low tax environment. That is not supposed to be case in Democratic strongholds that are supposed to have a pathological aversion to such policies.

That being said, however, as one who worships at the alter of supply-side economics, a tax cut, regardless of the source, is always seen as beneficial. And while this tax "conformity" policy does offer some relief, tax reductions can always be expanded. What Minnesota is offering is a start but a good start.

Another state, also a Democrat stronghold orders of magnitude beyond Minnesota, and one who needs a tax reform in its own right would be California. The Golden State is now getting wet. A state where severe drought has been the norm in recent days, the current deluge could erase those effects and assist state agriculture and its forestry. Of course, when there is a new fire season, all this new growth will means so much more fuel. With Sacramento's practice of not pruning trees and other brush. for "environmental" reasons, the cost of the next fire could be excessive.

So, two Democrat run states one offering tax relief to its citizens, because of policy and the other perhaps putting its residents at risk, also because of policy.
