An Honest Politicin

(An Honest Politician)

Under most circumstances, that would be a contradiction in terms. There might have been "Honest" Abraham Lincoln but he would be by far the exception. By and large, any politicians' veracity is comparable to that of a used car salesman and there are numerous examples or public servants with extended wooden noses. Sometimes such false-hoods can result in a removal from public life. However, that would depend on the nature of the politician.

Joe Biden has run for President several times going back to 1988 when he had to drop out when plagiarism charges surfaced. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) has claimed tours in Vietnam, that never happened. The latest to be caught in a fib of sorts would be Congressman George Santos (R-NY. However, no action can probably be taken against because Santos' removal would decrease the Republican Majority in the House. In that regard, George Santos has been made indispensable.

Political corruption is a fact of life. Not just people but institutions as well but that has to be weighed with a greater good. The Justice Department and the FBI uses a completely untoward approach in the Russian collusion hoax regarding former President Trump but without their efforts, Trump could still be in Office.

After several rolls of the dice, Joe Biden was made President. He and his Cabinet have been far from Angels but by virtue of their position and media protection, their malfeasance and lack of competence have mounted. The Ohio train incident is a case in point. The mis-placed documents would be another. But these are alco cases where allowances are made by the fact of who is involved and what the greater good might require.

This not to say that every politician is corrupt and one still find those idealistic souls that have a serious interest in the public good. What is leaned over time is that such idealism gets replaced with practicality. It is in large measure that these "practical" people look at that big picture and decide what is realistic. And what the point would be in always being honest.
