The Jungle STILL Wants Hims Dead !

(The Jungle STILL Wants Him Dead !)

In the aftermath of the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor, recriminations abounded. Beyond the commanders in Hawaii, there were those in the War and Navy Departments that also had a share in what happened that December 7th. Among these was Admiral Richmond Kelly Turner, who proved a brilliant amphibious commander, in charge of numerous American landings in the Pacific War. Before that, however, Turner had been Chief of War Plans and, zealously guarding his position, found himself in a turf war with then Office of Naval Intelligence. Turner was insisting that all such information should be confined to Ware Plans and as a consequence, when Japanese intentions began to reveal themselves, the analytical mechanisms were not allowed to be present. After the raid, however, Turner was able to take steps to ensure his survival and his career because he proved pliant to higher authorities. He would not implicate them, so they need nor implicate him.

Donald Trump is no Richmond Kelly Turner in the sense that he, unlike Turner, is bucking the system. Trump's indictment, truth be told, will not save him. Polling positions not-withstanding, a new Trump nomination will not be the hill the broader Republican Party to die on. There have been calls for GOP unity because one of their own is under attack. Is that a cry that Mitch McConnell will embrace ? Or Mitt Romney ? It has been their collective efforts to keep the former President at arms length and keep him from the process altogether,

A few predications were made regarding this situation and both seem to be coming true. It was said that Trump would be indicted. That has happened. It was also said Trump would see a short-term benefit. That has also taken place. As it has been noted that the case is weak but that is not relevant. And, the long-term aspects are more problematic. It is these aspects that more establishment Republicans are aware of.

Donald Trump has become "Colonel Kurtz" from the Vietnam classic Apocalypse Now ! where towards the end of the movie, before Captain Willard did his slice and dice of the Colonel, he made the comment that "even the jungle wanted him dead. Because of his refusal to bow off the stage quietly, because he would go away mad instead of just going away. That however will be the inevitable consequence.
