Sometimes, people get rolled like a cigarette. Or a Tootsie. Or, if one is a Republican. The GOP can never seem to avoid obvious pitfalls that are placed in its way. The simple reason is that Republicans are gullible. Theirs is the remarkable gift to transform what would be a victory under normal circumstances only to see the fortune reversed. The leaker of the Dobbs Abortion decision is finally known, at least to the Supreme Court with Justice Alito running point. However, this was no random release of classified information. There was to be a predictable Republican reaction after Dobbs was made Law of the Land. Across the country, Republican state legislatures fell over themselves, crafting abortion bans of this or that nature, of this or that duration. But when the state voted on these measures, there was hardly a groundswell of support. In fact, one can point to the GOP reaction to Dobbs that tended to temper its prospective its Mid-Term fortunes.

By the same token, what is the pro-life Party to do ? Abandon that principle because it fails to poll at significant levels ? Explaining the Republican approach to the issue is something the Party needs to do to expand its rolls. But the point here is that the Supreme Court compromise of what was supposed to be under lock and key. However, one can say that the individual in question acted in anticipation of subsequent events.

Now, when someone blows a Supreme Court Opinion pre-maturely, one would imagine that would be illegal and the perpetrator would be prosecuted. The Chief Justice, John Roberts, has not acted to identify the person or persons as that could compromise the Court further. He or she could get off, like Hunter Biden is about to.

How can the GOP increase its power while not losing what it has now. It is about to send Donald Trump back to the Nomination, and final retirement afterward. In the meantime, it has to stop being taken for fools. The rest of the country, like Democrats, the Blinken memo and the SCOTUS leaker, are playing chess and are many moves ahead, while Republicans are still learning checkers.
