Anybody who sees a calendar might notice that the date is June 6th, the 79th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Festung Europa, coming ashore on the Calvados Coast, Normandy, France, portion of the Hitler's Atlantic Wall. In an Operation named NEPTUNE/OVERLORD. With concurrent airborne drops behind the beaches, seaborne infantry assaulted five beaches: from west to east, the assault points were named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. Not to recount all the evets of the Battle but D-Day Historian, Stephen Ambrose provided a clear answer when he made his own assessment as to the success of the Invasion. The Atlantic Wall held up the U.S. 4th Division at Utah for less than an hour. It held the British and Canadian divisions on Gold, Juno, and Sword, for about an hour, The Wall held up the US 1st and 29th Divisions on Omaha for about half the day. In Ambrose's words, the Atlantic Wall has to be considered the worst failure of military history.


How big a failure will Donald Trump prove to be in this up-coming election. How If there was any real chance that he would prevail against President Biden that has now been dis-counted. If there was any confidence that Trump could win again then he would be alone in the GOP Primary, then he would be un-opposed. That is obviously not the case here and now that Pense and Christie have joined the Campaign, they are presenting themselves, along with perhaps DeSantis, as the alternative to Trump on the vain hope that Republican voters will choose them to be their standard bearer.


However, like a plus-sized wrestler, Trump already has mass on the mat. Trump is polling at 53% and the next contender is at least 20 points but Christie can be an attack dog. He will bring the former President to task. Christie, and Pense can tag team as they know how un-fit Trump is for a second term.


But, how fit is President Biden ? His lack of ambulatory skill has been evident. Biden is also under investigation as to whether he, as Vice President, took a bribe to influence policy. If that is borne out, the situation could change. Barring that, however, look for Trump to lose and Christie and Pense could only watch.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. The reason France was in Mexico in the first place was that Mexico, after the Mexican-American War and a more civil conflict called the Reform War, had bankrupted Mexico City. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
