It is an open question. Should Donald Trump participate in the upcoming GOP Debate set for August 23rd ? The polls all have him way ahead of the next Republican challenger so there is some thought that he should steer clear of the competition. Why risk exposure and some political damage if Trump interacts with the likes of Senator Scott. Governor Haley and all the other candidates that qualified to be on that stage.


On the other hand, what would happen if Trump does appear ? Assuming he does not fall on his face like what happened at that 2020 debate with now President Biden, he could solidify his support among Republican faithful but is not the audience Trump would need to attract. Independents, women, and college educated people, would also be viewing the former President and how the other candidates fare.


Trump needs to stop believing his will be a coronation to the Nomination. He to stop looking for endorsements from other GOP hitters and should keep his mouth shut in his criticism of Republican office holders. like Governor Reynolds from Iowa or looking for an endorsement from Speaker McCarthy.


That Donald Trump is even in this situation is remarkable. If President Biden had not his own legal troubles and the other issues, the same mechanisms that had been in place last time are still there but regardless, the former President is now tied or has even pulled ahead in some surveys.


And of course, it remains an open question if the President will not himself be replaced at some point. How does Donald Trump poll against California's Gavin Newsome ? Or Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan ? The Democrat theory has always been that, if the GOP nominates Trump, Democrats could run Donald Duck who would win against Donald Trump.


To not be compared to a Disney character with a speech impediment, Donald Trump should go on stage and proves he can talk.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. (Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences.
