(That Last Week. . .)

The last seven days of the Pacific war in August, 1945, were some of the most remarkable of the whole War. His Majesty, Emperor Hirohito had determined that the conflict must be brought to an end and broadcast Japan's acceptance of the terms set at Potsdam. The Emperor's action, however, was seen as a repudiation of bushido, the Way of the Warrior. The islands across the Pacific, from Guadalcanal to Okinawa had been littered with Japanese corpses who chose death before surrender. Then, to have the Sovereign himself commit such an unpardonable sin, one can imagine how some Japanese officers in their zeal to persist in fighting, would act against the Emperor and prevent the broadcast of Hirohito's capitulation.


These conspirators had planned to seize the Imperial Palace and had been prepared to the take the Emperor in custody. At that moment, however, the last B-29 raid of the war caused Tokyo to go dark. When the lights went out on the Palace grounds, the plan to take Hirohito was dis-rupted. The Emperor recorded his rescript and as a second option, the conspirators searched the Palace looking for the record. The attempts failed and Hirohito's broadcast was heard, his voice had been the first time the Japanese had heard him. Hirohito's Divinity has been broken.


President Joe Biden is hardly a Divinity of any type but, like Emperor Hirohito, there are those in the circle that want to see him removed. Hirohito had been a figure head to a regime who had lost the most destructive War in History but the questions surrounding President Biden is his long term viability, This has been a topic of discussion for months now and as Biden is out selling Bidenomics and cancelling appliances, he is doing so with an almost listless demeanor. The recent fires on Maui is something the President should be active in addressing. His silence on this matter is deafening.


The President is already under impeachment articles. The appointment of Weiss as a Special Counsel in the Hunter Biden affair might have paused things for the moment. However, the outstanding question remains. How damaged must Joe Biden be before Donald Trump becomes more acceptable.


 In any event, Emperor Hirohito's broadcast was made and V-J Day was declared August, 15th, 1945. That had been a bad week. President Biden's has not been much better.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Or, in other words, relax. Take a breath. De-compress. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
