Un-Due Hubris ?

(Un-Due Hubris ?)

Politicians have by definition some of the biggest swelled heads possible. A lot of the time, it is not necessarily justified. These have been people who have an ego that pursues personal glory at the expense of a more collectivist aim. Jim Jeffords had been a so-called "Republican" from the Peoples' Republic, of Vermont. In 2000, Jeffords switched Parties to become a Democrat. As the Senate had a one seat GOP Majority, Jeffords' defection flipped the Senate.

Senators are a different animal. There are Democrats and Republicans, and they usually vote together. That does not mean these are team players and can be more than willing to oppose legislation that could be favored by the larger Party. That gives each Member a certain autonomy. That being said, certain Senators remain non-committal. Instead of putting a "D" or an "R" next to one's name, coping out and saying an "Independent."

There have been several Senate Independents over the years. Joe Lieberman (D/I-CT), Angus King (I-ME), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Two more recent switches would be Kirsten Sinema (I-AZ) and now possibly Joe Manchin (D-WV). For the moment. Sinema and Manchin are the reasons that President Biden or Majority Leader Schumer did not get the Senate originally desired. Because Republicans could not win those Georgia seats. It was their "intransigence" on behalf of the Constitution and now Senator Manchin is considering "independence" on his own.

According to the senior Senator from the Mountain State, the Democrat Party has become too extreme. A common response when one exits either Party. That is the reason Senator Liberman, the 2000 Democrat candidate for Vice President, found the drift of his Party un-palatable. Now it is also Sinema, Now, it could be Manchin. And what remains of the Democrat green agenda has two more maybes.

One more individual who could be displaying un-due hubris would be Republican front-runner has stated he will not sign a Republican oath where he said he would support the eventual GOP Nominee, were it someone other than him. Trump is not planning to attend the first Republican Debate. The former President needs to be making friends because the myth that he won in 2020 and that he could win next year could persist.
