Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is in a bad way. The five-count indictment released the other day has engendered calls from other Democrats to immediately call for the suspension of his Chairmanship from the Foreign Relations Committee but his resignation from the Senate. Like Barney Ross might say, Menendez has become "expendable." If Menendez does leave the Body, New Jersey's Democrat Governor, Murphy, will appoint another of the same Party to Menendez vacating his seat.


But what would be the attitude be if the Garden State Governor was still Chris Christie ? Would these charges, as severe as they are, be brought in the first place if Menendez could not be replaced with a Democrat ? It would seem that enforcing the law can only take place as long as it remains politically expedient.


Take the immigration crisis for another example. There is the law and there is what is politically expedient ? The law says that one must gain permission of some sort before entering the country. For the Biden Administration, however, it is politically expedient to have the open borders. And as the images along the Rio Grande are poor optics for the White House, some illegal aliens are being transported into the interior. Biden is giving hundreds of thousands of work visas to Venezuelans. There is another word for that and that is amnesty.


Amnesty would need its own law. It would require an act of Congress but since that is not likely to happen any time soon, Biden simply made a decision on his own. That is not how things are supposed to work but that has never been a priority for President Biden. If there has been a recurring theme the last few years, going back even to the last election, it had been the pursuit of power.


So, Senator Menendez can be discarded. President Biden can work his own immigration policy and even declare amnesty for some. It has been said before that the most in-convenient instrument in these Biden years has been the Constitution. But, if he tries to discard it, like Menendez, he will do so at his peril.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
