The ending scene in Patton, with George C. Scott walking "Willie" his dog with a windmill to his right began a soliloquy: "For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the Wars enjoyed the honor of a Triumph. . ." In the description, Scott talks about a "tumultuous parade." Finally Scott concludes that a "slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown and whispering into his ear, a warning. That all glory, is fleeting."


When former President Trump made an appearance at the South Carolina/Clemson game the other day, it was all but the equivalent of a Triumph. The capacity crowd of some 60,000 were clearly fans of Trump who stood on the field and waved to his fans. It must also be noted that Trump was in Nikki Haley country, one who wants to be President herself. In the Palmetto State, the former President might be more popular than the former South Carolina Governor, at least as far as Presidential elections go.

A reason that President Biden would not get the same reaction is numerous. The House case on impeaching President Biden will be dependent to some extent on what Hunter Biden has to tell the House Oversight Committee and its Chairman James comer (R-KY) who subpoenaed younger Biden, who wants his testimony to be made public But, of all the cumulative effects of Biden's negatives, it is easy to forget that there is impeachment inquiry being conducted. Bidenomics remains un-popular and a new caravan is heading for Biden's open border and his interference with Israel-Hamas War.


The ledger for the Biden Administration is heavy in the minus column. President Biden is seeing his green agenda being retrenched with a collapse in any electric vehicle sales and a similar reduction in wind power. That being said, one of the symptoms of his cognitive frailty is his reaction to these events.


If Donald Trump is returned to Office, he is set to reverse Biden initiatives, like Biden reversed Trump policy when he left the White House. And, to be sure, a lot of effort is being applied to prevent such an outcome. Trump could not be just a regular Republican President. He had too much celebrity already and he was able to connect with voters. He lost them in 2020, obviously because of the pandemic and machinations of others. Events on January 6th did not help matters.


But in spite of it all, in spite of all the charges, the legal maneuvering, he is still leading in the polls (a thought not thinkable only a short time ago). That is why, wherever he goes, Trump still gets a standing ovation. Sixty thousand screaming fans in South Carolina should say something.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Or, in other words, relax. Take a breath. De-compress. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome. Like with the Israel- Hamas war where the Biden Administration continues to press for an all but unilateral ceasefire on the part of Israel.
