The Peoples' Republican Army Navy today is a reminder of the rich Chinese Navy tradition. In past centuries, Chinese ships were huge ocean-going vessels that could have colonized the world at one point. It had been able to defeat even European naval powers like Portugal. Then, the Chinese emperor at the time, had a dream and ordered this vast fleet be destroyed. So, when England took over with the Royal Navy, the Chinese Navy was not in any position to challenge it. So began the long subjugation of China by the European powers.

As mentioned the other day, President Biden issued an Executor Order governing artificial intelligence. The effect the action will tend to dampen the full potential of the technology. Perhaps more disturbing, however, is that Biden took the step because he had a screening of a Mission Impossible movie. The villain had been an AI construct. So, like that Chinese Emperor who did away with his Blue Navy because of a dream, so Biden is constraining AI because some Ethen Hunt exploit freaked him out.

When one thinks about it, President Biden should not be used in the same sentence as "intelligence." He has much greater problems than AI in the sense that he is trying to control events that have already moved beyond his control. Secretary of State Blinken is in the Middle East trying to negotiate a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas though Jerusalem has made it clear that is not an option.

Israel is about to be attacked from three directions. Its Iron Dome air defense system is being over-whelmed and its munitions will need to be replaced. As the United States is the only nation with that ability, quick action needs to be taken in that regard. Open warfare in the region is a fact, American troops are being attacked all over the area and the Hezbollah head has all but declared war on the U.S. Are these not credible threats ?

What is the traditional role of an American President when Americans are in harms' way abroad ? When are American troops attacked ? When they get taken as hostages ? Is one just to sit passively, work for a cease fire ? Biden is like a salmon swimming up-river and fighting the current all the way or a futile resistance against a tide. If the President of the United States does not know to act in the interests of the United States. . .
