The Kuril Islands are a string of desolate pieces of rock that run in a chain northeast of Japan. On one of these islands is a very large natural harbor called Hitokappu Bay. On the 26th of November, 1941, Kido Butai, or "Mobile Force" consisting of twenty four ships with six Japanese fleet carriers, assembled in the Bay before setting off for Pearl Harbor.


The Kuriles in November can be cold. Another place that gets cold in November is Canada. A line from Hitokappu Bay reaches Western Canada. The Capitol of Canada is Ottawa. The current Prime Minister is Justin Trudeau. The Prime Minister recently suffered a defeat when his Ukraine policy was rejected by "conservative" elements in the government. As Trudeau puts it, MAGA Extremists do not support the Ukraine endeavor, Canada is being polluted by right-wing politics from down south.


Support for Ukraine has been conditional among conservative politicians but it was Trudeau's inclusion of a carbon tax that, more than Ukraine funding, that probably is why more that anything else on why the Ukraine initiative failed. Like most other green measures and Trudeau and Biden have been joined at the hip. When the President cancelled the Keystone when he first took Office, there was a economic loss to Canada as well. But for the cause. Right ?


Of all the twenty or so fleet units of the Imperial Japanese Navy that sortied from Hitokappu in November 1941 were all sunk by the end of the War. The same thing can begin to be said for many of green remedies, like the carbon tax. Prime Minister Trudeau and for that matter President Biden continue to engage in polices that remain expensive and un-popular.


It is getting cold in Canada, again. The Great White North as the Makenzie Brothers call it can be a frigid wasteland like the Kuriles. That being said, how does one keep warm in that environment ? Electric heaters, as advocated by the President ? One gets into Eskimo country and heat their igloos, they will not be using electric anything as cold as it gets. Jimmy Buffet, may he rest in peace, had it right.


Changing latitudes can change attitudes.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
