Making The Cut. . .

(Making The Cut. . .)

Want to run through the jungle ? Donald Trump has not been treated well by these Pages. If one can recall the entries from last March, it was predicting that the former President would be the GOP Nominee but Trump still could not win against President Biden. For the latter, his campaign preferred Trump as the opponent because he had been defeated by Biden in 2020. Trump's was considered as failed Presidency and if he were to "prevail" again, so many voters that left him in 2020 and saw fit to place a Delaware Senator and former Vice President, who spent the campaign in the basement and was still maneuvered into the White House. As the praise went, "even the jungle wanted him dead."

That was the general feeling and persisted for weeks. Then commentary emerged in some corners that, with a straight face, said that the former President could be (re)elected. That was received as news and it was the first contradiction of original thinking. That being said, a lot has transpired, namely that Biden's age suddenly became apparent. The House Impeachment Inquiry is set for a vote. And on the other hand, what about Trump's own legal troubles ? Four indictments with ninety charges between them. But as it would seem, Trump becomes more popular the greater legal peril.

So what ? Tyson-Hollyfield part two ? What is it saying about American politics where the 2020 candidates are the same for the 2024 race ? Or will it ? Donald Trump will be needing to run the bases to get the GOP nod and, that being said, so will President Biden. Biden has a baggage list just like Trump but will Biden still be the Democrat nominee ?

Now, all this could be pre-mature and none of this matters until points get put on the board. Things will begin in Iowa, just weeks away. Trump has expressed his confidence in his chances. But to be sure, there has been an evolution and a reversal of fortune. At the start of the analysis, Trump could not beat Biden. Now, any Republican could beat Biden.

The same need to replace Trump has translated into the possible need to replace Biden. But as the campaign year on the Republican side has been looking for a Trump alternative, like Ron DeSantis. Like Nikky Haley. Chris Christie or Vivek Ramaswami. none have approached Donald Trump as far as polling goes.

But if the President himself needs to step aside for physical or mental reasons, who would take his place ? There have been the usual suspects. And the President himself has said that if Trump got the nod, again, the ex-President would be a dictator. Trump has said as much. At least on Day One.
