There were many famous battles in the War of the American Revolution. Bunker Hill. Saratoga. Yorktown. Bagel Heights. Now, the latter is a classic Warner Brothers feature that pits Patriot Bugs Bunny against (Yosemite) Sam von Spam, the Hessian. The two foils traded fire, Bugs from a wood stockade and Sam from a stone fortress. Bugs flew a green flag that said "We." Sam flying a flag saying "They." When the two finally recognized, Sam demanded Bugs' surrender because he had him out-numbered "one to one !"


In recent days, the House Republican Conference has been bleeding Members; George Santos has been expelled because his inherent value to the  GOP Conference and former Speaker McCarthy has completed his tantrum, announcing his retirement, effective at the end of the month. The few suddenly became "fewer."


Now, this smaller Majority is re-enacting the Battle for Bagel Heights because they now have Democrats "outnumbered" one to one. It is an odd thing to happen now as Hunter Biden has just been indicted on nine counts of tax evasion in California, if found guilty, he could spend the next seventeen years in prison. But, if there were ever one who would get a Presidential Pardon, it would be the son of President Joe Biden. That being said, however, the President has indicated that Biden Jr. will not receive such a reprieve.


Hunter Biden has always been a means to an end as far as getting to his father was concerned. All through the investigation, Hunter Biden has acted as a proximity fuse, if he "goes off," like with a nine-count series of tax evasion allegations, does that further compromises his father ? Does this give the House investigative Committees, Judicial and Oversight, further enhance the impeachment inquiry ? Such an exercise will require a vote and another impeachment of another President and do Republicans have all the votes for that next step ?


In the end, that could prove problematic. And, that being said, it is being suggested that charging Junior now, on charges limited to Hunter's tax activity, the President to a point gets shielded from the House Committees. While under indictment, Hunter Biden cannot otherwise be deposed. One can suppose that this was the plan all along.


But Hunter Biden's efforts at tax evasion are the least of his potential crimes. He could have been charged as a foreign agent with all the Chinese and Ukrainian et al interactions. That is what House Republicans are facing and they are the only mechanism capable of investigating the President. And, by virtue of its diminished number, like at Bagel Heights, they are out-numbered. One to one.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences.
