This last Christmas Season, the Frank Capra classic, Pocket Full of Miracles aired. Bette Davis, Hope Lange, and Glenn Ford. To, briefly recount the story, Ford is a New York bootlegger who has to turn a bag lady into a High Society dame so her daughter, who is set to marry a Spanish Count, would not be embarrassed by her circumstances. In the mean time, a Boss from Chicago wanted to establish a national syndicate and offered Ford a chance to join. Ford demurred, however. He made it clear that Chicago would not be playing in New York unless Ford is paid $100,000. In the end, and seeing the value in adding New York, the Boss acquiesced and paid up.


Like Bootlegger Ford in the movie, the President of Mexico is making his own demands on the Biden Administration, if President Biden wants his help in curbing illegal immigration. Mexican President Lopez-Obrador wants $20 billion, visas for 10 million migrants, essentially granting them amnesty, and ending the blockade of Cuba and sanctions against Venezuela. In return, Mexico would promise to do more on its own southern border with Honduras and Belize.


For Mexico City to dictate terms to Washington in this manner lays bare the abject failure of Biden's border policy. The latest outrage is how illegal migrants had to be moved indoors, a Brooklyn high school gymnasium, displacing the students already there. It has been images such as this that makes the Biden approach to immigration has been an abject so, when Lopez-Obrador offers his "assistance," he knows, like Glenn Ford that he can exact his pound of flesh.


If Mexico can dictate terms in this fashion, imagine what Chinese and Iranian terms would be and how the Administration would feel compelled to respond ? This has been the reason why China is not being properly sanctioned. This is the reason why Iran is not being challenged in the Near East. The common element is these are all failures has been Biden international policy and in the case of illegal aliens, domestic policy.


Lopez-Obrador has been elevated by Biden's in-action. And, it is not just the President but the DHS Secretary Mayorkas who have kept insisting on "secure" borders. That is one reason why Biden and Mayorkas could be impeached. But little men who can have big egos and pretend that they are more important than reality would suggest. For this moment at least, the President of Mexico is more important than the President of the United States.  And he makes noise.

TEQUILA !

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
