Good Call ?

(Good Call ?)

If one were to look at any TV schedule, a big football game is being played this evening. On CBS, Super Bowl LVIII of all things will be aired. The two best teams in the AFC, the Kanas City Chiefs and the Champions of the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers. These are the teams that have travailed these past months to make an appearance in the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. One can expect a slew of flags and calls, some might be considered controversial. However, one will not be seeing the President in what a traditional interview has been held on Super Bowl Sunday.

Considering Biden's performance the other night after the report of how he mis-handled classified material, how he than had that press conference, the President clearly had memory lapses such as the year his son Beau died. How he forget that the President of Egypt was not the President of Mexico. And, Biden got angry. Now, a televised press conference to answer the damning Special Counsel Hur report that said that Biden willing held confidential material that he should not have had and not have anything secured. In any event, that audience was small.

Some 100 million+ will be viewing this Super Bowl. in no small measure because Taylor Swift will be there. Things would have been much simpler if they just let her do the Half Time Show. But one can digress. Clearly, President Biden is no Taylor Swift but that still means he probably is in no shape to do a broadcast in front of a Super Bowl-sized audience and if the President seemed compromised last Thursday, imagine how he would seem to a viewership at least ten times that size ?

Biden did not do a Super Bowl interview last year either. It could be that there had always been the concern with his inner circle that such sit-downs could be counter-productive, the same idea this year. This year, however, Biden's condition is more pronounced. All things considered, then, it is probably better that Biden skip this interview as well.

On the other hand, former President Trump offered to take Biden's place in the session. As he put it, probably correctly. the broadcast would be "ratings gold." While that could be true, CBS is loathe to allow the Republican candidate such exposure. As for President Biden, he will need to be re-relegated back to the basement.
