Happy Valentines' Day ! One can hope that chocolates or flowers or jewelry or whatever, regardless of the effect on the environment. This is the Day that Cupid's Arrows let fly and striking significant others of millions of romantically inclined, Sadly, there will also be a lot of breaking hearts. For every comedy on the Hallmark Channel, there will also be something darker on HBO.


Or, stupid pet tricks. That had been a staple of the Late Night with David Letterman back in the day. More recently, Sarah Silverman has an eponymously-named program on TBS. Alternatively, this might not be a pet trick but it was stupid. The old George Santos House seat was flipped to Democrat. That was almost bound to happen after the New York Republican was caught committing ethics violations.


This issue was examined some months previously. Santos was expelled from the House because of those violations, and it was decided to have a Special Election.  A point was made that Santos had "intrinsic value" beyond his own ethics issues. If Santos had been able to keep his Seat, it would still be in GOP hands.


That reality was apparently lost on House Leadership. This race is supposed to be a harbinger and now, there is no statistical probability that Republicans retain the House. They may pick up Seats in the Senate, even returning to the Majority (possibly without Senator McConnell as Republican Leader) and Donald Trump could be elected again. However, any new Trump Administration would not be complete without the Trifecta of GOP control. That will mean the Presidency, a Republican Senate, and a Republican House.


Otherwise, the Trump tax cuts to not get renewed. His energy plan of "drill baby drill" will not be realized. There will be no funding appropriated to finish the wall. Because Congressman Santos was not retained, the current House Majority has that has the relative thickness of tooth enamel.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Or, in other words, relax. Take a breath. De-compress. May 5th as it happens is the anniversary of Mexico's victory over French "occupation" of Mexico by Emperor Maximillian, brother to Austrian monarch Maria Theresa in what has been called the Battle of Puebla. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome. Like with the Israel- Hamas war where the Biden Administration continues to press for an all but unilateral ceasefire on the part of Israel.
