Test Case Scenario

(Test Case Scenario)

Some one million illegal aliens have crossed into the United States since October 1st. That is in addition to the millions already here. So much for Homeland Security and the man who is supposed to run it. Alajandro Mayorkas has not been very good at his job. Indeed, House Republicans tried to impeach the Secretary because he is being held as responsible for the border catastrophe. As of this morning, however, Mayorkas still has his job.

There is a reason why the Democrats will likely re-take the House next November. The Republican Conference has self-immolated itself with the Speaker fight, the loss of two members from a Majority of only four. And specifically, on the Mayorkas impeachment vote, four Republicans sided with all Democrats to have the motion fail.

Mayorkas was a trial run and a test for the House GOP. To see if the Conference can at some point come together as a single body and pass what it can of its agenda. Impeaching Mayorkas ostensibly was on that agenda. It was a low hanging fruit but even that could not engender a united Party.

Is the Impeachment of President Biden still being considered ? His sins are at least as bad as the Secretary's and made worse because it was the President that hired Mayorkas in the first place. But Biden's performance with the border is only one issue in the bills of retainer that will ultimately be submitted. Looking forward, when the Judiciary and Oversight Committees complete their work, and actual Articles get formalized, and a Floor vote is ordered, would every House Republican vote to Impeach the President ?

To say with finality that that would be the case is now a problematic proposition. It might be an outrageous idea now that any Republican representative would not vote to impeach a Democrat President. Democrats never gave Trump that courtesy who was charged for a lot less than President Biden.
