You're Fired !

(You're Fired !)

It had been a piece of programming genius that gave famous real estate developer Donald Trump his own reality show, The Apprentice. The show was ratings gold for the fifteen seasons it ran. If remembers the format, several business themed contestants had to complete "challenges" and how they managed their tasks. If the task was not complete or otherwise issue, Trump. as the Chairman, would declare "You're Fired !"

As President, Donald Trump initiated a hostile take-over of the Republican Party, Two of its "executives," Party Chairperson, Rona McDaniel who is stepping down after the South Carolina Primary. and Senate Republican Leader, Mitch McConnell. Both tried to balance the interests of the Trump insurgency Republicans against the needs and traditions of the Establishment. Like two contestants from The Apprentice, both McDaniel and McConnell are getting fired.

Rona McDaniel as GOP Chairperson presided over a Party that has not met its fund-raising goals, the Mid-Terms that could have been a Republican Night came up well short. She did nothing to forestall the civil war in the House Leadership that resulted in the removal of Speaker McCarthy. In the time of Trump and his support in the country should have translated a larger Republican representation in Congress. Because none of these came to pass, invariably. McDaniel is getting the blame and that is why she is exiting. McDaniel's legacy is an ill funded Party whose House Republican Conference who was unable to impeach Secretary Mayorkas and it had been McDaniel's that had recruited some of the Members in question.

So, McDaniel is moving on. Her departure will solidify Trump's influence on the Party as McDaniel's successor could be a Trump ally. What about Senator McConnell ? His relationship with Majority Leader Schumer in this latest Border bill, that failed, and McConnell's cooperation with Democrats has become an indulgence on the Republican Leader's part. One does not remain a Republican Leader if he cannot vote Republican.

The Republican Party has never been a team. Too many Members that should share a common ideology and by extension, voting tendencies. This Congress and the House leadership have allowed for fractious side-shows that only further diminished an already razor-thin Majority. Republican Party Chairperson, Rona McDaniel, is the architect of this Congress. For his part, Senator McConnell is seeing he should perhaps move on as well.
