A Mile Away. . .

(A Mile Away. . .)

". . A mile away live the rich folks. And I see how they're living it up. While the poor they eat from hand to mouth, the rich drink from a golden cup."

That is a line from the Poison hit, "Something to Believe In." The song is about contrasts and how elites assume unto themselves a certain status of privilege. A recent example of this would be the Democrat fundraiser held at Radio City with President Biden and former Presidents, Clintona and Obama that netted some $26 million in the end. Literally, a short distance away, the wake for fallen NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller was being held. Former President Trump was able to make his own appearance.

Thirty Rock might be across 6th Avenue from the News Corp Buidling but it might have as well as been an Ivory Tower with its splendid isolation. President Bidan needs money and higher poll numbers but in the next breath, orders new emission restrictions on heavy duty trucks. Another such regulatory change will be expensive especially for those who operate such vehicles as a part of their livelihood. It is one more un-popular move the President is accumulating. Is Biden racing to be un-popular as well ?

If Biden is content to associate with deep pocket Hollywood types, former President Trump was able to make the point that had been the policies of those gathered at Rockerfeller Center that soft-on-crime pursuits had led to Diller's death. His assailant had been a repeat offender that should have been in jail. But one could also make the argument that he twenty-six million dollars raised would be used to fund the Biden Campaign, but also to complete his Green Socialist agenda, of which the new emission rule is the latest part.

The truth is, the President is making policy choices in a vacuum. He can associate with his two previous Democrat Presidents, but he is apparently ignoring their would-be counsel. One could not help but notice that there was a large pro-Palestinian protest that was held outside Radio City. The only reason that Biden would care would not be to support Israel, America's greatest ally in the region but what said support could mean in Michigan or Minnesota.

There is no calculus for Joe Biden, or Bill Clinton or even Barack Obama that is beyond politics. Any tragedy in the world, like the Israel-Hamas War, or the conflict in Ukraine for that matter, or Officer Diller's death, each instance has to be seen within the prism of political consequence. A bland approach to self-preservation.

Give me something to believe in. . .
