Debtors' Prison

(Debtors' Prison)

It was a common enough sight in Victorian England for "debtor" prisons. That would have been the world of Charles Dickens and Oliver Twist. In any event, former President Donald Trump has just been levied a bond of $464 million, a sum he could have difficulty raising. Also, it has been revealed that the federal response to the covid pandemic was ineffective and that Google has interfered with elections with sixteen years and over forty cases. And the media, predictably, lost its mind over the Trump "bloodbath" comments.

People were placed into these dismal places of incarnation were for those who could not pay what were often unfair obligations. Like the bond being assessed on Donald Trump. In order to secure that amount, Trump could be forced to divest assets. Like Trump Tower and all his other New York properties. Trump also has a few golf courses and, the jewel in the crown, the Mar-A-Lago estate. Quite a display to have federal officers go to each of these Trump properties and have them take custody. One can imagine New York AG Leticia James heading into Trump Tower and changing the locks.

The reason the former President is in this predicament was his inability to manage the pandemic effectively and, admittedly, the pandemic was used to process Trump out of office the last time. Hyperbolically speaking, the costs of the pandemic, the deaths, the loss of faith in institutions, the lock-downs, of the economy and schools, the use of masks, the social distance and of course the vaccines. None of these "measures" accomplished anything of consequence, but it did get Donald Trump out of Office. Now that he might be going back ?

One organization that would not be enthusiastic about that outcome is Google. As one of the more liberal search engines, they have been using their influence to alter outcomes against any of their preferred "candidates." Google is a source of information and that can have a profound impact, especially when comes to political discourse. So, if one is going to Google for information about Donald Trump, it would in all likelihood anti-character bias. Now, if the visitor to Google believes what the platform is telling him or her, and does not seek other sources, than one is denying the full scope of opinion.

That being said, Google, along with most the rest of the media, collectively lost their minds when Trump used the phrase, "bloodbath." The inference is that, should Trump not prevail in November, bad things would take place. One can imagine gangs of MAGA supporters ranging far and wide that would make January 6th look like a nice day outing. The idea that a Trump loss would lead to that scenario is a narrative the media needs to believe. Of course, if Trump does lose so would the American auto-industry and all its employees. That is the "bloodbath" mentioned.

There are three things that will survive the Apocalypse. Cockroaches, Twinkies, and Donald Trump. From his finances to his dealing with the covid crisis, and the predicable relationship with the media, like Google and the equally predictable Trump comments taken out of context, Donald Trump in a sense has been in a debtors' prison. Does he get paroled in November ?
