As Real As It Gets. . .

(As Real As It Gets. . .)

Can the situation get any more confused ? As all but expected, Iran launched a barrage of some three hundred projectiles of all types, 99% of which intercepted beyond visual range by a combination of Israeli, U.S., British, French, and even Jordanian assets. The Israeli response itself has yet to materialize and yet Iran is offering a diplomatic alternative to further escalation. That would be an easy call to make because if the missile strike failed as it had, seeing an end to hostilities now could be advantageous, to Iran.

The time for diplomacy has passed and Israel needs to offer a vigorous response. It has been suggested that the actions was merely for domestic consumption, both Israeli and Iranian, And, for President Biden who would be willing to grab any cessation of hostilities. The reality is that this is not something that can be switched off and the same scenario will be repeated going forward. Will the President be able to handle each conflagration as it erupts ?

There was a scene from the Classic The Guns of Navarone, where Gregory Peck admonishes David Niven to take a more active role in the mission, beyond being the explosives expert. Peck told Niven that the "by-standing days were over. He was in it now, up to his neck.!" So is Joe Biden. The other day, opportunities for the President were mentioned. Any half measures, attempts at diplomacy will ultimately prove self defeating.

The Near East needs stability and the Administration will be needing a policy change. The reversal of his energy policy would still be paramount, he will need to abandon Iran and any negotiations over any supposed nuclear deal. And the President needs to expand the progress of the last Administration and re-vitalize the Abraham Accords. Once Tehran is neutralized, that would be when the Houthis as well as Hamas and Hezbollah can be eliminated themselves. Israel is already on the way of achieving the former.

Up till now, the Biden Administration has been little more than a Potemkin Village. All the green mandates and so on has been mostly for show. An almost four-year virtue signal with no real substance. What has been taking place in the Near East is a dose of reality. A chance to settle things. To be diplomatic when appropriate. What the President needs to understand is that he has power and only needs to use it.

Otherwise. . .
