The times in which we love ? As everybody knows by now, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, a Championship Squad, gave a commencement address to the graduating class of Benedictine College, a private Catholic university. Butker delivered remarks that lauded the women in the audience and said that they could look forward to a professional career and. equally, if not more so, those looking forward to being a wife and mother. As Butker himself relates, he met his wife in a middle school band class. An emotional moment for the kicker.


And that is not okay for some. A speech on the value of marriage and motherhood should be benign but what has emerged is a frantic flight to condemn Butker, to say that he does not share the values of institutions of the NFL. What are the values of the League, and all else who called for Butker's admonishments in in the first place ? A statement of Faith and a happy family can be so threatening because it contradicts preferred narratives of the Left.


There are a series of ideological enforcement mechanisms to "promote" conformity. One is cancel culture. The other would-be DEI, diversity, equity, and inclusion, that is not diverse, it is not equitable, and it definitely is not inclusive. What it is, is an insidious instrument of control. It has invaded academia, corporate boards, and perhaps, most ominously, the US Armed Services.


As it happens, today is Armed Forces Day. A time to celebrate the men and women under arms took up a call to the Colors. However, the "Colors" are not as appealing because of the insistence of the incorporation of DEI principles into the Command Structure. Proper pronouns use and a recognition of the dangers of climate change. There was an off joke that allowing homosexuals in the military might mean that no wars were won "but the parades looked fabulous !"


Of course, sexual identity should have no bearing on the combat effectiveness of an individual. It is the leadership that is being affected, however. A collective loss of the basic mission of any military, to defend the country. Warfare is messy. One kills people and breaks things. How one might "feel" in the process, if DEI is incorporated in a battlespace, bodies will be the consequence.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. (Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
