Persian Rugs. . .

(Persian Rugs. . .)

". . . I grow tired of asking thisit is going to be the last time. Where is the Rebel Base ?"

That was the exchange between Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in that scene from Star Wars Episode IV, "A New Hope," before Alderaan was destroyed.  How it rates for today ? Repeatedly in previous weeks, the point has been made that there can be only one outcome in the Trump hush money trial, his guilt. All the maneuvering as to a possible early adjournment or jury dismissal, the questions as to whether to call defense witnesses or placing Donald Trump on the stand himself are all open questions. The result will remain the same. One of the things that this trial will provide for President Biden is that Trump will meet him in the debate as a convicted felon.

Even with such a marred record, Trump will be able to confront Biden and his policy failures. A large one would be how Biden and his Administration approached Iran. If there was a score to keep in relations with the Islamic Republic, the win-loss column would be Biden zero and Iran the rest. Former DCI and Defense Secretary, Robert Gates made the comment that the now President has been wrong on every major foreign policy question over the last decade.

Biden was opposed to the mission that "coped" with Osama bin Laden. That would also explain Afghanistan. That would explain the Iran Nuke Deal Biden negotiated with John Kerry, another policy-challenged individual. Since the Israel-Hamas war has begun, Tehran and its proxies have all but been given free reign to conduct their own operations, supplying everybody from Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, all have been active in the region.

In a helicopter crash, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and some other Iranian high ranking officials perished last Sunday when their transport crashed. Raisi is infamous because he ordered the execution of some 5,000 Iranian civilians in 1988. In a regime that is hardline to begin with, Raisi stood apart.

How will President Biden answer for Iran ? With the death of Raisi and with wide-spread discontent among the population with the regime, why couldn't the State Department or elements of the intelligence community take a stand with the "man on the street Iranians" and make an effort to support their cause. At the same time, use American power to end the Iranian proxies in the region. These would be the right things to do for American interests. However, that has never been the interest of President Biden.
