John Wayne might have been an American institution but one can also notice that he made the same film with different titles. For example, as a "lawman," he was in El Dorado, Rio Bravo and Rio Lobo. The "cattle baron" was nicely done with Big Jake, Chisum, and McClintock!. Now, the so-called "debate" format that the Biden campaign is insisting on, the no audience (a CNN broadcast so there would be no great viewership to begin with) and no third-party participation, banning Independent Robert F. Kennedy.


That is the controlled environment with which Biden will be allowed to face Trump. And, truth be told, the President has been getting things wrong. He has been claiming that he inherited a 9% inflation when he took office. It was in reality, under 2%. Biden is also floating the idea of a more permissive approach to marijuana use. Coupled with student loan forgiveness, would that be a belated attempt to win back the youth vote ?


Beyond President Biden and former President Trump and their up-coming conversation, however, certain safeguards are being emplaced. Senator Durban (D-IL) Judiciary Chairman is considering a return of an old Senate practice called "blue stripping" where any circuit court judge nominee must have the approval of the Senator from that state, If Trump does prevail in the end, and by some chance the GOP regains the Upper Chamber, the new Trump Administration will necessarily be hampered as it tries to re-fill its own candidates for the federal judiciary.


Senator Durban could be pre-mature in his "panic." There is nothing to suggest that Republicans will win and indeed, all the fundraising is going to Democrat challengers. And, it is likely that Republicans will lose the House. So, even if Trump returns to the White House, a convicted felon at that point, he will necessarily be frustrated in his pursuit of his agenda.


So, there will be a debate next month. All the things that can be done for the President have been done. It is possible that some form of "stimulant" could be administered. For his part, former President Trump has suggested a test for "performance enhancement." He is only half kidding.

(TEQUILA !) Happy Cinco de Mayo or May 5th. One can hope that a lot of you out there are awash in inebriation, seeking to mainline tequila shots or enjoying a nice margarita on the patio. Intended Consequences

(Intended Consequences) For those Readers who live in the Tri-State area, who had the earthquake this morning, just be still.  There is a postulate called the Law of Un-Intended Consequences. Basically, it says that even with the best intentions, negative results sometimes happen. However, there are also instances when a negative result is precisely the desired outcome.
