Take any racehorse track and its betting pool. Then, once "they're off," one changes his or her bet when it seem that particular horse is losing. In essence, that Democrats have done, forcing Biden out before the wire. But, which horse is still running ? Vice President Harris ? She has achieved by default what she could achieve popularly. Harris was the worst performer in the Democrat Primary, dropping out before Iowa, not having secured s single delegate. So, why was she chosen to be Biden's Vice President ?


It is being said that Harris is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, a DEI hire so to speak. As a black female, Harris checked all boxes. President Biden had limited use for Harris but her selection was the will of the Party, The same will that thrust Biden aside and has elevated Harris.


So, for all intents and purposes, Vice President Harris last week is now President Harris now. That means that she can make her own Executive Orders and considering her temperament, one can expect over the next months her attempt to win the White House in her own right. That being said, she does have positions that are controversial to say the least. Her work on the border, or a lack thereof, her named Border Tsar notwithstanding. Harris supports rent control and, with Senator Sanders, advocates for the total nationalization of health care, costing some $34 trillion. She opposes practices like fracking. And, she also might make some unilateral declaration on some economic matter, a tax hike or the like. Now, while she was Biden's #2, the Harris' own positions were subsumed. Now that she is the head of the ticket, those ideas will get more consideration. It remains to be seen what effect these positions will hold  Will she be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu when he visits ?


The bloom on "acting" President Kamala Harris' rose could fade quickly. At some point, Harris will have to debate Trump, unencumbered by President Biden's condition. And, when it becomes settled, GOP VEEP pick will debate Harris' choice as a running mate. For now, however, Harris has a good few days. She has raised money, the Party is rallying around her. She looks good now. But "now," will not be then for some time. A lot can happen.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
