It didn't take long. Some weeks ago, after the assassination attempt and a successful GOP Convention, and popular opinion claimed it was Trump's race to lose. Then in a dramatic reversal of fortune, President Biden withdrew from the race and elevated Vice President Harris as the prospective Democrat Nominee, her running mate to be announced shorty. In the meantime, the Trump Campaign is encountering increased resistance, has lost support among women with Harris the Democrat choice and some in-artful comments from Republican Vice President Nominee, J.D. Vance. In fact, things are going so well that the historian that has accurately predicted every Presidential outcome since 1984 is saying that 2024 will be the year of Harris.


What happened to all the groundswell support among Republicans ? Their Nominee took a bullet, but the media is pretending the event did not take place. The national press, in print and on air is successfully weaving the narrative that the Vice President is immensely reasonable. Her past actions and positions are being sanitized so when she convenes at the Democrat Convention in Chicago where she will be formally "Crowned."


Republican fortunes have collapsed. Vance need to apologize more forcefully over the "cat lady" comment and Trump himself had promised a "kindler-gentler" version of himself nut in recent interviews that has a yet to materialize. Democrats are now telling the story and people are listening. The new term for Republicans is "weird."


Well. "weird" would be in the eye of the beholder. If one were honest, Kamala Harris would be the nationwide distributor of weird. Men can have babies ? Men can participate in women's sports ? Abortion to the point of delivery ? And, yes Virginia, Vice President Harris is the Border Tsar. Media efforts to compensate the Harris record cannot overcome the fact there is a record. Kamala Harris has been a prolific presence on camera. She sponsored a fund to bail out 2020 protesters, especially after the George Floyd affair. Harris has been a supporter of Black Lives Matter. She also is an advocat for universal health care. The litany continues but what is revealed is that Harris has a reputation to defend and questions to answer.


As with most Presidential contenders, there can be a march to the middle. Like the German retreat from the Marne River in September, 1914, Harris has amended positions on fracking, universal health care, and so on. Harris still supports Biden's efforts to "reform" the Supreme Court but while Harris might moderate on some issues, she will alienate those that traditionally reside at the other end of the ideological spectrum. And, one can be assured that if she does win as she is expected to do, she will govern exactly as she feels.


What about Donald Trump ? He did take a "bullet for democracy" after all. But he and his Campaign has been outmaneuvered and if Vance gets any more compromised, he might have to withdraw. Democrats could not win with Biden still running. They cannot help but win now that Harris is the Nominee, Such is life. . .

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
