Why would anyone want to be President of the United States ? If one asked Donald Trump, he would tell you that you could get shot. As for Kamala Harris, she has to replace President Biden at the head of the ticket. There seems to be more enthusiasm for the former President as evidenced by the thousands that attend his rallies. A return to Butler to "finish his speech" would bring a crowd beyond capacity. Vice President Harris, on the other hand, could perhaps organize an Avon or Tupperware party and perhaps a book club. However, whomever is elected this November, the approach to Israel will need "amendment" at the very least.
While Hamas might be decimated in the south, also Iranian-backed Hezbollah launched a fresh rocket attack on a Druze community, There were twelve prompt fatalities, mostly children involved in recreational activity, like playing soccer. Israel has given a vigorous response, engaging Hezbollah in the south of Lebanon with air strikes of its own. This is the deadliest attack since the war began October 7th of last year.
So, you're President of the United States, Mr. Trump or Mrs. Harris. Say this happened in 2025 when either of these people are President. Looking at past behavior, certain patterns can be determined as to what President would take whatever action. One can begin with Donald Trump. Trump has been a supporter of Israel and would have the attitude that the Jewish state has the right to self-defense. Trump's reaction in the Hamas conflict was that while the war was justified, it could not be open-ended. There had to be a terminal date and, at least as Hamas is concerned, that is almost complete. What happens now that Hezbollah has escalated in this manner ?
The reaction of a "President Harris" would be more nuanced. For arguments' sake say Harris picks Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who is Jewish. Harris possibly reversed her position on fracking, like Senator Fetterman. But, with Israel under attack, again. will she rally to the Jewish people ? Will she condemn Hezbollah and by extension, Iran ? Will these actions compromise her politically ? The Vice President is the heir to the Biden Administration she also inherits the reproachment with Tehran. After this, would that relationship be maintained, even among the murder of children ?
One thing one can say for a return of Donald Trump to the White House. For him, things would be less complicated. He has defined positions, and he is able to act accordingly. Is there any doubt that once back in Office, the Israeli War would persist for much longer ? Is there any doubt that the Houthis in Yemen would continue to attack targets in Red Sea ? For Vice President Harris, however, and her nuanced approach, she would be much less decisive. She would have to be.
