Today is July 20th, 1969 which is the 55th anniversary of the Apollo XI Moon landing (speaking of long flights).  


People have been flying all over the world, if not quite to the Moon. But for those on earth, who find themselves airborne from JFK-EWR (Kennedy or Newark), Singapore Airlines is offering non-stop A350 service to SIN/Chengi. The flight takes almost nineteen hours and any passengers that can sit for that long on an aircraft that is not an A380, which would have more room. The '350 has range but not necessarily comfort. What would be required is some stiff bourbon and a good movie. Several, in fact.


However, what might be playing at the Democrat Party is less a movie and more a horror show. Whereas the Republicans were able to leave Milwaukee as a united front, there is still the open question as to the fate of President Biden. Like that song from The Clash, "should he stay or should he go ?" For the Party, neither option would seem advantageous. The lingering question, if Biden is replaced or not does not have any outcomes that has the President over-coming former President Trump. Again.


What has become clear, however, is that the President, unless he is replaced, Democrats have concerns for all the so-called down ballot contests. But the same result could also accrue in Biden's absence. So, what is the alternative ? July 20th, 1944 was the date that Adolf Hitler was also almost assassinated, is the equivalent about to happen to President Biden ? Political death, from one source or another.


What will this mean for Donald Trump and J.D. Vance ? All throughout the campaign, it had always been Biden's desire to face the former President because it was always his belief that he would win again. But the President might not be the picture for much longer. He mode of departure, or to remaining, remains to be seen but can guess of the damage done as this gets sorted out.


So, on this July 20th, 2024, one can either look to either the triumph of Apollo, or what almost happened to Hitler. Both campaigns are on track but with two different outcomes.

Keeping The Faith ?

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
