On August 29th, the Soviet Union detonated its first atomic bomb. In an instant, the arms race was transformed. The same can be said about the 2024 Presidential Campaign because when Biden was dropped out and Harris anointed, what had been Trump's race to win is has become tied or the Vice President is slightly ahead. That would be bad news for the former President because unless the Trump margin is beyond that of error, the advantage is with Harris. She has avoided the press to date, and she only grudgingly accepted an interview with CNN, with Governor Tim Walz. There has been criticism as to why she cannot do the interview alone.


She does not need to. CNN will have a friendly interviewer in Dana Bash. And Walz will be there for support. Harris does have a lot to clarify, like is she really reversing so many positions ? Is she amending her stance on fracking ? On health care ? Does she now support a border wall ? How might she feel about sanctuary cities and would she still bail out those rioters from 2020 ? And what about Harris' economic policies about tax increases and price controls  ?


These are tough questions but will they be poised by Bash ? Each of these questions can be seen as damaging if Harris is maintaining those stances. That being said, it is clear that the media narrative thus far has benefitted the Vice President who, in the wake of the Democrat Convention has re-assembled the "Blue Wall" that Donald Trump had leads only weeks ago.


The Trump Campaign is worried. They have yet to adapt to the changing environment. Trump lost in 2020 because the various rules and other alterations in vote counting. It is losing now because of the change in opponents. It must also be mentioned that early voting is stating in North Carolina and then Pennsylvania, processes that favor Democrats. Republicans, for their part are attempting similar measures this year but the success or failure of those efforts remain to be seen.


At the moment, the race is Harris' to lose. Trump is perhaps expecting an anemic debate performance on the part of the Vice President. At the moment, that is a crapshoot and a dangerous basket to place all of ones eggs. One can only say this. If Harris does get elected and there is a Democrat sweep of Congress as well, 2021 all over again, Harris can easily revert back to where she has stood and all that would entail. People deserve the government they vote for and if they prefer Democrats and its Vice President, it should be so indicated.


However, it is not quite September.

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto.
