Of All Days. . .

(Of All Days. . .)

In retrospect, these last months of the Biden Administration, or the first of the "Harris" Administration, will be a test. On a positive note, jailed Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and Marine Paul Whelen have been released in some kind of prisoner swap. Also, Israel was able to assassinate the two senior commanders of Hamas and Hezbollah, respectively, one in Tehran and the other in Beirut. It would also appear the three men most responsible for September 11th will now not face the death penalty. Almost three-thousand Americans killed on that Tuesday morning and the likes of Sheik Mohammad will get life. instead of death.

While one can celebrate the release of Gershkovich and Whelan the question must be asked what did the Russians get in return ? People remember the Bo Bergdal trade where this diserter from his post and subsequent capture by the Taliban, his return resulted in four of their commanders being returned into the field. For his part, President Putin has some of his opposition abroad and if they are the subject of this exchange, their fates will be un-certain.

Is the proxy war between Iran and Israel about to escalate ? When Israeli assets managed the execution of Faud Shukr of Hezbollah in Beirut and Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas in Tehran. In response, the Islamic Republic has promised a direct and prompt retaliation against the Jewish State. A similar threat was made some months ago when a barrage of missiles were launched against Israel the vast majority of which were intercepted and wherever there was an impact there was virtually no damage. For its part, Israel did not retaliate in kind, it being remarked that that showed restraint. What will happen in a renewed Iranian attack ?

Where were you when Pearl Harbor was announced ? Or the Kennedy Assassination ? Or, September 11th, 2001 ? In an exhaustive investigation to identify those most responsible for the atrocity learn of the fate, On Wednesday, the Department of Defense announced the Convening Authority for Military Commissions, Susan Escallier, entered into pretrial agreements with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin 'Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi. Of those who perhaps deserve the ultimate sanction, it would be these three men. The details of the plea have not been released and one can imagine this would be disappointing for 9-11 victims' families.

President Biden will speak on the release shortly. It cannot but help politically and at this point, Biden could use all the boost he could get. And, while her image is still being defined, a Vice President Harris victory is becoming increasingly likely. For his part, however, Donald Trump makes an appearance at the Black Journalists Association to mixed reviews. He held a large rally in Harrisburg. However, because it could be no other way, it will be President Harris come January.
