TV ads can be so stupid these days. Banal, irrelevant, and just plain annoying. When the commercials break, one can change the channel or do other things but there is a marked lack of talent for those who "play" in these commercials. Progressive insurance is by far the worst. This has not always been the case, however. People who write for television should sometimes have a sense of humor. Commercials can be funny and when they are, the product advertised gets a boost in sales. Take that classic Wendy's spot from a few years ago, where three old ladies are looking at a burger with an over-sized bun but a small patty. At that, one of the ladies asks, "Where's the beef ?" She repeats the question before concluding "I don't think anybody's back there."


Where's the beef with Vice President Harris ? It has been over two weeks since her coronation and she has yet to give an interview or hold a press conference. She has been able to hold rallies like the one in Philadelphia with running mate Walz and she is still raising money but she has given no indication as to what her policies might be. There have been ruminations and traditional rhetoric but Harris has not been specific.


For his part, former President Trump does have an economic plan with specifics, and he will be giving a press conference this afternoon at his Palm Beach Estate. Trump wants to open American petroleum exploitation, make the Trump tax cuts permanent, and impose tariffs on China. The former President could discuss these tenants today when he gets questioned by reporters.


If Kamala Harris and Tim Walz think that they can hold the occasional rally and spout platitudes, the media can offer some cover. That will not last. Remember, President Biden remains President Biden and even in the current crisis filled environment. Goeing forward, Harris will need to take stands, need to define an agenda. She will have the opportunity at the eventual debate with Trump. Harris is trying to simultaneously mollify various constituencies.


In the end, if the Vice President is to beat the former President, she will need to be more forthcoming as to her ideas and gauge the broader appeal with voters. Simply being anti-Trump might be sufficient for some but not all and it will not get her and Walz to the magic number of 270 Electoral votes. If Trump gets there first ?

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops.
