Win (or go home)

 Win (or go home)

First, a word on the passing of James Earl Jones at 93. The actor is perhaps best known as the voice of Darth Vader. Vader had been a character that has been fully implanted in the American consciousness. One says name of Darth Vader and one exactly who he is. Dark suit, flowing cape, a life support control panel on his chest, but, most distinctive of al, it was Vader's breathing, the hissing in, and out.

In any event, tonight is the Trump-Harris debate. When the playoffs start in the NBA, TNT has a broadcast called Inside the NBA and its four-member panel, Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenney Smith. Eight teams from the East and West Conferences and over the period of weeks teams get eliminated. Quarter finals, then the Semi Finals, the Conference Finals, then the NBA Finals. Each time a team loses, Johnson and crew "send them fishing." Hence the show's motto: "Win, or go home."

The build-up to this exchange has been in process for the last several days. For Voce President Harris, it has been over fifty days without major public exposure but the debate this evening should be instructive. Where she is standing on issues ? Will she be the old radical liberal Kamala of old or will she be the more pragmatic centrist as Senator Sanders said she might re-adjust.

Former President Trump will have a target-rich environment with which to confront the Vice President. Her positions now versus those she might have held previously ? Why did she switch and is all this an election year gimmick ? It has been said that Vice Harris is the most manufactured candidate and what she is able to display in Philadelphia. However, maneuvering against Harris will be about half of what Trump requires himself tonight.

Like what will the former President do ? He has his tax policy, his border policy. his crime policy and his foreign policy. Each is in contrast to what the Vice President has proposed. Can he make his pitch while still holding onto Harris ? What of the ABC moderators ? The other variable is the news crew, the chronic anti-Trump World News Tonight anchor, David Muir. Will he be there to cover for the Vice President.

Whatever can be said, Kamala Harris is the underdog against Donald Trump. Trump has been practicing, having interviews, town halls and so on. Former Hawaiian Congresswoman and Presidential candidate herself, Tulsi Gabbard, has been briefing Trump as she had faced Harris on a stage some ago. She should offer insights into Harris' demeanor.

The stage is being set, literally and depending on the outcome, Wednesday morning could see a new race. Harris has the more difficult task to try to be natural. If she spends the evening in support of Bidenomics and green socialist equity, Trump should do well. If, however, she cannot seem consistent, flip flops and so on, Trump should also do well. Harris has to do well, she has to win, or she could go home.

Tune in tomorrow.
