At Some Point. . .

(At Some Point. . .)

It would seem that one can do everything right and still lose. Donald Trump made a triumphant return to Butler to a crowd larger than the one on July 13th. He made an appearance at the October 7th commemoration in Miami. He has been out and about but the best Kamala Harris can do is an interview with 60 Minutes, where that performance was still problematic. The point being that even with media criticism, she is still beating Trump.

The truth has always been that Trump could not win a close election. All those who claim the former President in reality has more support are getting delusional at this point. Commentators on Fax News have been the perpetrators of this myth and when Trump loses, what will happen to supposedly "learned" opinion. Of course, there will be a natural reversion to excuses. The poll is within the margin of error. Trump still has leads in certain states. Un-fortunately for Republicans, Helene wiped out GOP Precincts in western North Carolina but the more urbanized east, Asheville, Raleigh/Durham and so on, have mostly intact voter infrastructure that could tip the Tar Hill State to Harris.

If the Election were held today, Harris would win and it would be a good Democrat night with electoral success all down the ballot. That is if today were November 5th. As it is not, Donald Trump has some time to re-convinced the American people that he is the better candidate. However, he has been doing that since the beginning and he is still losing.

Today, Trump is in California. What else can he do ? He has no chance in winning the Golden State but at this point, he has nothing to lose. The Jack Smith un-sealed indictment is still in play. Therefore, it is time to stop pretending. The former President is not doing better "behind the scenes." There is no hidden groundswell of support among men, African or Hispanic Americans. Young people are un-predictable.  Trump does not have the women's vote. Wishful thinking can only go so far.

That being said, Harris might be going to the White House and if that is the case, she will have been installed, just like President Biden. The effects of Helene and soon to be Milton, might require a response but it will not be coming from Vice President Harris or any other federal agency. But she is still winning. So, one can suppose it will not matter.
