British Field Marchal Sir Benard Law Montgomery is the most overrated Allied commander in all of World War II. His defeats of Erwin Rommel at El Almain was a piece of set-battle "brilliance," can be qualified by the fact that the Afrika Korps commander was forced to assault a fixed position low on mobile assets and ammunition. But was the failure of what was supposed to be Montgomery's crowning achievement, Operation MARKET GARDEN, the "Bridge Too Far" endeavor. The sacrifice of 8,000 British 1st Airborne troops when the Germans over-ran Arnhem, the last bridge to be seized in the Operation. The mobile component of MARKET GAEDEN, XXX Corps, kept getting held up and delayed so by the time the Corps was needed over the Rhine at Arnhem, the Germans had taken the position.


Donald Trump spent three hours with Joe Rogan. He has a rally in Michigan tonight and his booking at Madison Square Garden for tomorrow. All events, the millions who tune in Rogan and the thousands that will be at Michigan and New York. All that, however, does not mean Donald Trump will win the popular vote. In his case, that would be his "bridge too far,"


There is a reason why Democrats wish to dis-mantle the Electoral College. If it were gone, than Presidents would be elected by Democrat majority states like West Coast, Ilinois. and New Jersey and New York. Democrat rule in perpetuity. But because people in Flyover Country vote and there are more of them, and the process has to be fair. Democrats speak of fairness until it works against their interests.


President Biden won in 2020 because he took the Electoral Collage. If Trump wins in ten days, it will be from the Electoral College as well. To be sure, the Collage is an archaic institution, but it reflects the intent of the Founders to keep power dispersed. States could flip from Blue to Red and back again all the while never concentrating power on too narrow a front. There can be Congressional Majorities, and there have been but the Minority still has a say.


If Doneld Trump wins the popular vote in addition to the Electoral College tally, it will have been an achievement. That being said, such a Trump victory would have to prevail in states like Colorado and Virginia. He could even win New York State ! On Election Night, and the Empire falls into Trump's camp, it will be a very early night.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
