People remember the Alexis de Tocqueville treatise Democracy in America. The book was published in the years 1835-1840 and it was de Tocqueville's version of American republicanism. The French author's work has provided the theoretical basis for the federal government in practice, however, it is the Constitution that provides the operational frame-work for the government, That framework says that a President is elected every four years and 2024 is a Presidential Election Year. Now, with than two weeks to go, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, 


To be sure, this year has been more volatile than most. Lawfare, assassination attempts, and even a coup. Never a dull moment. However, the tossed aside President Joe Biden, seeing the polls and how his Vice President Harris appears to be flailing against former President Trump, Biden is saying that at this point to have Trump "locked up." A Trump incarnation had always been an option to keep off the Trail. To have the President suggest it now ? Biden went on to qualify that Trump needs to be locked out politically.


Trump is like the monster under the bed and the thing in the closet. President Biden is scared of both. He is claiming that Trump will cause a bloodbath. That he will place his opponent in in prison and that Trump is the real threat to democracy. In Biden's paranoid mind, this makes sense. One can understand his position, to a point. Biden has always believed he could defeat Trump.


How many months did the narrative persist that Trump would win the GOP Nomination but still lose to President Biden in the General Election. In the President's mind, that calculation remained valid, despite the debate performance with Trump. That set this merry go round off to begin with. President Biden is seeing his legacy about to be wholly reversed. He concerns about the environment, his green agenda, and his standard bearer in Vice President Harris could be losing, all he can do is watch ?


There are any number of just outcomes that could be assigned to Donald Trump and all have been explored at one point or another, They tried to bankrupt the Mogul. They leveled four indictments and found him guilty on 34 counts. The former President is a convicted felon and was even fingerprinted and gave a mug-shot.


He could have smiled. He could soon have a reason to celebrate.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
