Minute Walz

(Minute Walz)

At first glance, the term "Minute Waltz" would seem confusing as people dance a waltz for only one minute ? That would not even allow for the bow. The reality is that the Minute Waltz is not a dance at all but instead is a piano tune by Composer Chopin. That would make much more sense. At the VP Debate last night, Democrat Walz who had said he would be nervous, was.

The political costs to these debates has been rising since the first, and last meeting between President Biden and former President Trump back in July. That was the day that Biden's quest for the White House came to an end, installing Vice President Harris. When it was her turn to face Trump, she did well, knocking the former President for a loop. Her poll position did improve initially in certain swing state tallies.

However, the gains proved ephemeral and the race is as close as ever. Then came last night on CBS. Whereas Biden collapsed in the first debate, and Trump did as much in the second. Last night it was the turn of the former Minnesota Governor. The only one it would seem never had a bad debate night would be the Republican Vice President candidate, J.D. Vance. Vance was composed. He was able to discuss the issues and "empathized" with Walz that he was placed in the position of having to defend the Biden-Harris Administration. Tall task indeed.

While most Vice-Presidential Debates are less than noticeable, a few have stood out. Dan Quayle could not handle Lloyd Benson and Admiral Stockdale, Ross Perot's running mate collapsed when he was up against both Al Gore and Dan Quale. That being said, the Vance-Walz discussion did not discuss the port strike or events in the Middle East.

Vance had been able to annunciate the Trump record, espcially in the economic realm. The Vance body language was one who was prepared and Walz seemed less so. Walz was on that stage looking to mail it in. However, the most effective argument offered by Vance was the fact that President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris has had almost four years to act on policies. Everything that Walz tried to explain is a message of delay.

With some thirty days to go before November 5th, it remains to be seen what effect last night will have on the race. Last night it was the campaign surrogates who were front and center. It will be up to the principles going forward.
