On November 22nd, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He was laid to rest in Armington under an "Eternal Fame,"   a fire that has been alight since the original interment, Current House and Human Services Nominee, President Kennedy's nephew, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, could take some time today to pay a visit. It is being said that things could be on the brink of a Third Worked War.


The Cuban Missile Crisis was the major international crisis with which the Kennedy Administration had to contend. When American reconnaissance discovered that the Soviets were installing missiles in Cuba. President Kennedy ordered a naval blockade of the island and fended off the hawks in his White House that wanted to invade Cuba outright. Over the next thirteen days or so with some furious diplomatic activity of which then Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (senior) held private meetings with senior Soviet diplomats where a Modus Vivendi, was concluded. The Soviets would withdraw the missiles from Cuba if the U.S. and NATO de-activated its own batteries in Turkey,


This time, missiles are not in Cuba but are in Ukraine and the one who made this placement is President Joe Biden. The President has offered to forgive the $5 billion in loans to Kiev. The Russian response to all this has been to return with the launch of an IRBM (intermediate range ballistic missile) at Ukraine. That being said, however, Russian President Putin has expressed an interest in moving to a negotiation with the new reality, President Trump.


Trump is the eventuality, President Biden is the reality and while that remains the case, will the President continue to change the situation in Southeast Europe ? There has been some argument that Biden's could be used by Trump to end the conflict. That remains to be seen. So, while the situation is tense, it is not rising to the level of 1964.


The Kennedy brothers were able to navigate what was clearly the most intense period of the Cold War and their deaths were at some point because of it. It would be interesting to see the reaction of John and Robert Kennedy if they knew that Baby Bobby might begin working for President Donald Trump.

Keeping The Faith ?

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
