Every few cycles a Party experiences a loss so devastating that it takes years to recover. In the past, it has been both Democrats and Republicans. It has been the GOP in the past and this year it was the Democrats. Not only were Democrats unable to defeat Trump but they also lost Capitol Hill. Trump's Cabinet Nominees could all be confirmed. Trump could be getting his agenda through Congress. There is not even a real Resistance.


Even if Trump only gets half of his agenda past it his new Administration will have been considered a failure. Trump will get nowhere near half. What the President has yet to realize is that the "swamp" took decades to fill and its so-called draining will be taking just as long, long after Trump will have departed. The truth is that all elements in Washington, each has its own constituency.


The DOGE planning to make real reductions in spending will soon have to balance what is actually practical. Any recommendations that eliminate whole departments will need to be tempered by what could get through Congress, despite its GOP Majorities. That is where Democrats can begin their recovery. They will say that the cuts are Draconian that benefits could be reduced.


That might or might not be the case but that would be irrelevant. The media would echo these Democrat charges and when Trump's attempts to be bold and decisive, like the promised 25% tariff, on Canada and Mexico and another 10% on China, will if carried out could spark a trade war in contrast to desired result of Mexico limiting illegal immigration and Canada doing the same. China has been the source of fentanyl pre-cursors.


In the end, however, Trump's success or failure will depend on the ability of his Administration to change the "culture" and that is something that cannot be done. Trump will not necessarily accept DOGE recommendations. His Cabinet will be unable to be the transformative agents that Trump says are required. Look for resignations from various posts as the Trump Agenda gets subsumed by Washington politics.


In some ways, the Election of 2024 was the best thing to happen to Democrats, especially the losses. Now DEI and CRT can be discarded. They can be more in line with the American people that never wanted men in women's sports. They want a closed border. They need to re-think the approach to energy.


Of course, by that standard, they could almost be called Republicans.

(Keeping The Faith ?) Happy Memorial Day ! This is the day when the nation pauses and recognizes the contributions of the men and women that strove, and often times perished in the defense of this country. How many campaigns and battles have been seen over the years with Americans in harms way. Theirs was not a pursuit of glory, necessarily but they are remembered as such. As an example, take the Joe Rosenthal photo of the "Iwo Jima Flag-raising," February 23rd, 1945. Most people know what that is and not a few have a copy on their wall. Three of those Marines survived Iwo Jima and went on a bond tour to promote that picture. The U.S. was able to fund the rest of the War off of that drive but the Marines in question did not fare well. Siege Of The Alamo

(Siege Of The Alamo) Any visitor to Downtown San Antonio will recognize the City's most famous landmark, the Alamo. An old Spanish mission that means "Cottonwood" in English was the site where the likes of Jim Bowie, William Barrett Travis and Davy Crockett and about another 185 Texians defended the Mission and its compound for thirteen days against the Army of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana and his 5,000 troops. The garrison was finally reduced on March 6, 1836. However, the Texian defeat at the Alamo and another one at Goliad, bought time for General Sam Houston time to fall back and then face Santa Ana at San Jacinto. There, Houston's army surprised the Mexicans and yelling "Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad !" all but wiped out the Mexican force.
