Of all the positions that President-Elect Trump is selecting for his Cabinet. such as Senator Rubio at State, Noem at DHS, but Tom Homan as the Trump Border "Tsar," will prove to be one of the more consequential. Of the illegal aliens that have been set for deportation, it will Homem to lead the effort. For the last four years, the narrative has been that the Biden Administration opened the border and admitting millions of illegal migrants. Ostensibly it was to allow millions of new Democrat voters. Now, newly minted Border Tsar Homen will be one portion of the Trump agenda. The wall will be completed. Previous Sanctuary City protections will not be enforced. 

Homen will have orders of deportation for thousands of illegal migrants. Over the last few years, the State of Texas began erecting its own "wall" and was sued by the Biden Administration. Biden DHS Secretary had been Alejano Mayorkas, the one who had been impeached by the GOP House. The government argument was that the Lone Star State could not act unliterally on what was a federal matter. That will no longer be the case and if Texas cannot build its own border wall, so states and cities cannot hold "sanctuary" status if there is a policy change.

Homen is making it clear that the people involved can self-deport. Volunteer to return to the country of origin. Homen has said he will ignore such protections, and he will be assembling illegal immigrants for departure. As Homen has colloquially expressed, "get out of the way," He has his mandate from the President-Elect, who says he has his own mandate. To be sure, there is a difference between wanting to deport what could be millions of people over time.

There is the obvious group, criminal aliens. The ones from Venezuela that think they can occupy an apartment complex with no recourse for the residents. Operation AURORA as the President Trump is calling it. Of all the criminal aliens to be sent back, many will be going home to Caracas. However, there any number of groups, like the thousands of Chinese. Host countries might not be willing to reabsorb their citizens, but it might be up to them.

The cost of the operation could rise to $8 billion. That might or might not be accurate. And of course, there is the issue of splitting families. Sending a grandmother to Mexico or wherever because she was not yet documented. Tsar Homen has said families could be sent off all at once. If there is a distinction to be made as to who might be able to stay, or otherwise have some path to permanent residency, that remains to be determined.

The Biden Administration used its Supremacy Clause to run the border as it saw fit, keeping it open. Now, the Trump Administration will be using the same clause to reverse much of President Biden's agenda. The open border will now close. Those who had been allowed in will now for the most part be sent out. The ones on the front line that will be processing these people seem ready to engage their mission. President Trump, and Border Tsar Homen are leading the way.
